PWA food drive. Chevrei Tikva, Cleveland's lesbian and gay synagogue, will begin their second PWA Food Drive through HIT. The first event was held in December. In spite of poor publicity and one "snowed out" event, 135 pieces of food and personal products were donated. The second event will be during the months of March and April. Canned and packaged food, as well as personal hygiene products, may be brought to all events during these two months.

March and April were chosen to coincide with the Jewish holidays of Purim and Passover, and the Christian holiday of Easter; all events combine food with their ritual. At a time when we are eating well and celebrating, it is good to remember our friends who cannot provide for themselves due to AIDS. Anyone not wishing to donate food may bring cash or a check which will be converted to grocery store certificates.

Check Charlie's Calender for other interesting events during the spring season at Chevrei Tikva or call 932-5551.

Purim Party. Chevrei Tikva will having its first Purim Party on Friday March 16, at 8:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Society, 2728 Lancashire Rd., Cleveland Hts.

Come celebrate with us in masks as we rejoice in the bravery on Queen Esther and the wisdom of Mordecai as they saved Jews in Persia from death at the hands of Haman. The dramatic events that led up to this rescue are portrayed in the megillah (scroll) of Esther which will be read by one of our congregants.

Another one of the customs of this holiday is to assist people in need, and so in keeping with this tradition, Chevrei Tikva will have an area set aside for donations (canned goods, hygiene items, paper products) for PWAs, to be donated to Health Issues Taskforce. Hamantashim, a triangular pastry filled with fruit or poppyseed will be served, and folkdancing will complete our evening.

So, come one and all-learn something new and have fun doing it! For information, please call 932-5551 and leave a message. We will return your call.

Conference organizers have worked extensively with community based organizations to assure the role of HIV infected people in all aspects of the conference, including as speakers and reviewers of research. The goals of the HIV Delegate Program are twofold: to allow HIV infected people, PWAS and PWARCS to gather current treatment information for dissemination throughout the community, and to facilitate an exchange between the scientific and HIV infected communities to assure a better understanding of the needs of HIV infected people.

Interested HIV infected individuals are asked to prepare a letter requesting an HIV Delegate Pass. National Theatre Festival in Seattle. As a co-producer of the 1990 Goodwill Arts Festival, the Alice B. Theatre of Seattle, Washington presents the National Gay and Lesbian Theatre Festival, a two week festival of theatre companies and solo artists from the U.S. and Canada

Opening July 4 and playing through July 15, the National Festival is a festivalwitin-a-festival, reflecting the geographical, ethnic and theatrical diversity of the Goodwill Arts Festival and the Goodwill Games with its Soviet and American exchange of athletes. While internationally acclaimed artists share the spotlight at the Goodwill Arts Festival, Alice B's own tapestry of multiculturalism will feature new performance, jazz, drama, drag, dance, and outrageous comedy from artists whose subject matter and whose very existence-challenges contemporary assumptions about sex, gender, desire, and theater itself.

In conjunction with the festival, on July 9 and 10, Alice B. Theatre will sponsor a two day Gay and Lesbian Theatre Conference on contemporary theater issues, featuring workshops and panel discussions moderated by festival participants and special guests. Topics will include multiculturalism, the gay and lesbian aesthetic, and the question of "queer careers."
